Los Angeles Releases Sustainability Plan, Sets Example for Cities across the US
EDF Statement from Derek Walker, Associate Vice President, US Climate and Energy Program
(LOS ANGELES – April 8, 2015) Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) applauds the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Garcetti today on the release of one of the most ambitious sustainability plans of any major city. The plan outlines numerous objectives and goals for galvanizing Los Angeles’ clean energy economy by cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enhancing clean energy solutions, promoting clean transportation, and increasing urban greening. One bold initiative put forward by the plan is the goal of tripling installed local solar capacity to 400 megawatts (MW) by 2017.
“The leadership exhibited today by the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Garcetti serves as a model for the rest of the country that major American cities can and should play a vital role in fighting climate change and building a clean energy economy.
“EDF congratulates the city on this important step and is committed to working with Los Angeles on implementing and continuing to strengthen this impressive plan as it moves forward.”
