Ramping up the cleanest alternative fuels

The problem: Ships, planes and heavy industry create dangerous pollution when they burn oil, gas or coal. The world needs cleaner energy, and lots of it. Alternative fuels made from hydrogen, crop waste and other materials hold great promise — but only if they’re produced and used sustainably, and only if clean fuels are readily available at a competitive price.

What we’re doing about it: Through research, advocacy and partnerships, we’re laying the groundwork for the world to ramp up fuels that are truly sustainable. That means preventing pollution, leaks and other problems that hurt people and ecosystems. It also means increasing global investment in the cleanest fuels and using them strategically in sectors that need them.
