Eliminating science research department latest sign that President Trump’s EPA works for polluters
EDF statement from Sarah Vogel, Senior Vice President, Healthy Communities
(WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 18, 2025) The Trump administration is moving to shutter EPA’s science research department, which employs toxicologists, biologists and other scientists, according to published reports.
“EPA’s science-backed protections are what stand between families and the toxic pollution in our air and water that can make us sick. Eliminating the agency’s Office of Research and Development is reckless and dangerous, and it’s yet another step the administration is taking to fundamentally dismantle independent science in this country—the science essential to keeping Americans safe.
“Hollowing out EPA’s science teams will result in more pollution, more asthma attacks for our kids, more cancers and more lives needlessly cut short. This reckless move away from science-based decision making is the latest sign the Trump administration’s policies benefit the most irresponsible polluters instead of American families.”
