Sabin Center, EDF Re-Launch IRA Tracker with Tools for a New Administration
(January 23, 2025) Columbia Law School’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law and Environmental Defense Fund are jointly re-launching their Inflation Reduction Act Tracker with new functionality to track rollbacks, legal action, and other threats and changes to the IRA following the end of the Biden administration.
The interactive website will continue to help users understand the climate change-related provisions in the IRA. The website includes a database with summaries of the IRA provisions, and an action tracker that records actions taken by federal agencies to implement the IRA. It will now also document Trump administration attempts to undermine or roll back IRA programs, such as the day-one executive order directing federal agencies to pause disbursements under the IRA.
“As a law passed by Congress, the Inflation Reduction Act cannot be undone by President Trump with the stroke of a pen. But there is still a lot his administration might do to interfere with or undermine the programs it establishes." said Romany Webb, Deputy Director of Columbia Law School's Sabin Center for Climate Change Law. "We'll be tracking the Trump administration's actions and explaining what they might mean for climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts going forward."
The IRA is the biggest climate investment in U.S. history. Its combination of grants and tax credits has already spurred tremendous progress in the fight against climate change, while also supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs.
The IRA Tracker has been accessed by more than 50,000 users to identify and track implementation of the Act’s hundreds of ongoing funding programs, grants and tax credits, and to see the ongoing results of this tremendous piece of legislation that benefits all Americans.
“The Inflation Reduction Act is saving millions of people hard-earned money on their energy and transportation bills, spurring investment in U.S. manufacturing, and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in communities across the United States,” said EDF attorney Grace Smith. “We are tracking its implementation to ensure it continues to benefit the American people through clean solutions, healthier communities, lower costs, and jobs – as Congress forged in law.”
