Britt Groosman is Vice President of Climate-Smart Agriculture at Environmental Defense Fund, where she helps create environmentally effective and economically sound solutions for agriculture.

Her experience spans from reducing deforestation in Brazil to supporting low carbon rural development in India.

Previously in her career, Britt served as EDF’s first EU Director in London focusing on fisheries reform. She is an economist recognized for her wide-ranging expertise in environmental policy, most notably climate and conservation policy.

She is a strategic thinker with a collaborative style pulling together scientists, economists and policy experts to analyze and promote sustainable, pragmatic solutions to environmental problems.

Background

Britt set up EDF’s first European office in London, setting up a program with operations in Sweden, UK, Spain and Belgium. She was the first European Director for EDF’s Ocean program and lead EDF’s work on Common Fisheries Policy reform in Brussels. She simultaneously worked on the ground in various EU Member States with fishermen and local NGO partners on co-management processes and sustainable management of fisheries.

Britt had joined EDF in 2008 to work on US Federal climate policy and moved on to manage the Office of Economic Policy until 2011.

Prior to EDF, Britt worked as a senior economist at ERM (Environmental Resources Management), and as an economist at London Economics. From 1996 to 1999, Britt was a Researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ghent (Belgium), and has also taught guest courses for the United Nations University Program.

Education

Britt studied Economics (BA) and Law and Economics (MA) at the University of Gent, and Oxford University.
