Environmental Defense Fund at COP30

Belém, Brazil | Nov. 10-21, 2025

The annual United Nations climate conference is where the world comes together to address climate change by taking stock of global efforts and driving further progress.

This year’s conference — COP30 — is happening at a crucial moment, as extreme weather made worse by climate change upends people’s lives around the world.

But we can change course. At COP30, Environmental Defense Fund will work with partners to scale up proven solutions that address global warming while protecting nature alongside people’s health, homes and livelihoods.

As countries submit new commitments to tackle climate change this year, COP30 is the moment to translate those pledges into progress that people can see and feel.

Expert commentary on the road to COP30

EDF experts share in-depth analysis, highlighting issues to watch and bright spots of climate action that can inspire, inform and pave the way for further progress.

EDF’s key priorities at COP30

We’re advocating for climate solutions that work for people, nature and economies. And we’re collaborating with partners to implement those solutions at the scale the world urgently needs.

Conserving forests and managing wildfire risk

Wildfires pose a major threat to forests, which are vital for local communities and our climate. EDF and partners are working to shift how the world addresses extreme wildfires, moving from reactive fire suppression to proactive management and enhancing data-driven decision-making.

Supporting and financing Indigenous leadership

Indigenous peoples are often on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Yet, they remain among the most effective stewards of our world’s forests and biodiversity. EDF is joining Indigenous partners from Kenya, Ecuador and Brazil to support their work at COP30, amplify their demands to make finance accessible and advocate for Indigenous engagement in designing climate policies and solutions.

Cutting methane pollution from our food and energy systems

Tackling methane, a powerful super-pollutant, is one of the fastest ways to slow the rate of climate change. EDF addresses methane on multiple fronts, from helping farmers cut agricultural emissions to stopping wasteful leaks in oil and gas operations (natural gas is mainly made of methane). And we’re proving that cutting this waste makes strong economic sense across the globe.

Building resilience to climate change impacts

It's urgent to prepare for and adapt to a warming world to protect vulnerable communities. We must strengthen resilience so all communities can better withstand climate shocks. EDF is using innovation and partnerships to make essential adaptation solutions more accessible and affordable.

Scaling up climate finance

Developing countries need reliable, substantial financial support for climate action. We must mobilize all sources of capital — public and private — to meet the new global finance goal. EDF is advocating for the Baku to Belém Roadmap to ensure financing is scaled up, accessible and impactful.

EDF will participate in a variety of events at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, to drive ambitious action on climate change.
